From BOGOTÁ:

OPTION 1: By bus.
From your starting destination, take a taxi, hotel shuttle, or the TransMilenio bus line to TERMINAL DEL NORTE BUS TERMINAL (NOT Portal del Norte, which is nearby) where you can buy a direct bus ticket to Paipa (it will most likely be on the Gacela, Los Libertadores or Cotrans lines). If you do not see Paipa on the ticketing display, ask at any window and they should be able to direct you to the correct agent (it will sometimes be en route to another destination). Buses run frequently, at least every half hour.
- From El Dorado International Airport to Terminal del Norte will take around 1-1.5 hours by taxi, depending on traffic.
- The journey from Bogota to Paipa should take between 2.5 and 3 hours, but can take longer if you run into Bogota traffic exiting the city. If you are on a timeline, it is advised to leave outside of rush hour times.
- Bogota to Paipa currently costs $40,000 Colombian pesos (COP) per person, one-way. You will want to keep your ticket receipt with you as this is your proof of purchase and they may have an agent come on the bus to check. You can check bags and luggage for free under the buses, just remember to keep your claim ticket handy and have it ready at your stop.
- There are large Greyhound-style buses that go to Paipa as well as smaller shuttle-style buses. If you would prefer the comfort of the larger buses or have multiple bags, you can ask the gate agent to make sure to book you on the next large bus.
You will arrive at the central terminal in Paipa (look for the concert amphitheater/bandshell area on the right) where you can hire a taxi to take you to Greenie’s House in the Rio Arriba neighborhood. If you would like us to arrange for a taxi for you or need us to send a driver our location, please contact us via WhatsApp. The taxi to our location should cost between $20,000-$25,000 COP and takes 15-20 minutes from town along a rural mountain road.
OPTION 2: Arrange private transportation
We do not recommend hiring a city taxi to take you all the way from Bogota to Paipa as there are several tolls along the route and the drivers need permits to leave one district for another, both of which can lead to heavy surcharges/wait times for the customer. Instead, if you would like to use private transportation there are a number of tourism car services that can arrange your ride to Paipa for a flat fee. One we have used and can recommend is ColombianBuddy.com.
From MEDELLÍN:

The easiest way to travel from MedellÍn to Paipa is via regional airline Satena from Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport (EOH)* in MedellÍn to Juan José Rondón Airport (RON) in Paipa. They do not fly out every day, so please see Satena.com for flights and booking.
*This is the regional airport in MedellÍn, not the José María Córdova International Airport (MDE). If you will be traveling between the two, please note that they are about an hour away from one another by car.
